DDOT Work on Connecticut Avenue Underpass Ahead of Schedule

Contact (Media Only): Erik Linden (202) 671-2004

(Washington, DC) The District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT), as part of the ongoing rehabilitation of the Connecticut Avenue underpass at Dupont Circle in Northwest, has redirected all traffic flow to the southbound tunnel. Work in the northbound tunnel was completed ahead of schedule, allowing for the shift in traffic to occur sooner than projected.

The limits of work are Connecticut Avenue from R to N Streets, NW. Work hours are from 7 am through 10 pm Monday through Friday with some possible Saturday work, if necessary. The rehabilitation includes replacement of the existing pavement with reinforced concrete pavement.

Upgrades to both the electrical and sewer drainage systems are also planned as part of the overall project scope of work. A minimum of one-lane of traffic in each direction will continue to be maintained throughout the project. Access to the adjacent buildings will be maintained.

The project is currently scheduled for completion in February 2007, weather permitting.
