Temporary Connecticut Avenue Lane Restrictions, Thursday, September 7

Contact (Media Only): Erik Linden (202) 671-2004; Karyn LeBlanc (202) 671-3490

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced today that use of the three southbound lanes of Connecticut Avenue, NW between Macomb Street and Ordway Street will be temporarily restricted from 10:30 am to 11 pm on Thursday September 7, 2006. The lane restrictions are due to an event at the Uptown Theater at 3426 Connecticut Avenue.

The District’s Office of Motion Picture & Television Development, the Metropolitan Police Department and DDOT are coordinating the changes, and “Emergency No Parking” signs have been posted in the area. Parking will be restricted on both sides of Connecticut Avenue from 400 feet north of Ordway Street to Newark Street. A traffic pattern of two lanes northbound and one lane southbound will be maintained on the east side (northbound side) of Connecticut Avenue—a two-lane northbound reduction from a normal day’s traffic flow.

Alternate southbound routes include:

  • Porter Street to right on Adams Mill Road to Irving Street eastbound, to right on 16th Street southbound, to right on Columbia Road.
  • U Street/Florida Avenue westbound, back over to Connecticut Avenue.
  • Porter Street westbound to left on Reno Road/34th Street southbound, to left on Cleveland Avenue, to left on Calvert Street back to Connecticut Avenue.

Northbound motorists will be advised to make use of the same alternate routes specified above, in reverse. As always, DDOT recommends using Metro and to avoid the area as delays should be expected. Pedestrians walking in the area should use caution and cross Connecticut Avenue at Ordway Street and Macomb Street—both signalized intersections.
