Press Release for Immediate Release Monday, July 3, 2006 DC Circulator Announces July 4th Service Changes Contact (Media Only): Erik Linden (202) 671-2004; Karyn LeBlanc (202) 671-3490 (Washington, DC) The DC Circulator has announced single day service changes for Tuesday, July 4, 2006, in observance of Independence Day holiday road closures in the National Mall area. The National Gallery-Smithsonian Loop will not operate on Tuesday, July 4. However, riders are reminded that, excluding the 4th of July, the Smithsonian-National Gallery Loop offers an excellent, inexpensive and COOL way to get around the National Mall, particularly for visitors to the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, June 30-July 11. The North/South – or Shaw/Waterfront – Route will use alternate routes to get around road closures in the National Mall area, AND service will stop at 8 pm on Tuesday, July 4. The East/West – or Georgetown/Union Station – Route will operate on a normal schedule, from 7 am until 9 pm. DC Circulator is the product of a unique public/private partnership between the District Department of Transportation, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, and DC Surface Transit, Inc. The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) owns the Circulator. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) manages the service, and First Transit, a private sector transit operator, operates it. The DC Surface Transit Inc. (DCST) oversees Circulator marketing and contributes to the operation of the service. DCST is a non-profit corporation whose members include the Capitol Hill, Downtown, Golden Triangle and Georgetown Business Improvement Districts; the Washington Convention Center Authority (WCCA); the Washington Convention and Tourism Corporation (WCTC); and the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC).
