The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) joins the DC Office of Planning (OP) and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (ODMPED) and the Pennsylvania Avenue Task Force (PATF) to kick off the first in a series of meetings to address plans to transform Pennsylvania Avenue Southeast—east of the Anacostia River. The goal is to restore the stately boulevard to its title as “America’s Main Street.” Part of Mayor Anthony A. Williams’ “Great Streets Initiative,” a multi-agency effort begins with a kick-off event Thursday. Great Streets combines the forces of transportation investments, land use planning, economic development tools and incentives to spark revitalization of major corridors and their communities. DDOT is investing more than $14 million in streetscape improvements on Pennsylvania Avenue Southeast over the next two years.
