DDOT Schedules Meetings on Whitehurst Freeway Deconstruction Study

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) invites the public to two community meetings to discuss a new study on the feasibility of removing the Whitehurst Freeway:

Thursday, April 7, 2005    Saturday, April 30, 2005
7–9 pm    10 am–2 pm
St. John’s Episcopal Church   Palisades Neighborhood Library
3240 O Street, NW   4901 V Street, NW (at McArthur Boulevard)
This meeting will discuss the scope of the study and start-up findings.    This meeting will be a design workshop. It will be a chance for community members to review design alternatives and provide comments and suggestions.

The Whitehurst Freeway runs from Key Bridge to Rock Creek. The deconstruction study will examine how to build new connections with Canal Road to assure smooth traffic to and from M and K Streets and surrounding streets. The study will also produce multiple concepts for transit, automobile, pedestrian and bicycle connections with the waterfront, as well as analyze the impact on waterfront land values and how to engineer the deconstruction.
