Transportation Demand Management (TDM) is a general term for strategies that result in more efficient use of our transportation system. DDOT facilitates a number of TDM strategies to improve air quality, reduce congestion, and improve the quality of life for District residents and visitors.
In partnership with Business Improvement Districts, DDOT has created www.goDCgo.com to provide travel information for the greater downtown area. The site includes information on transit, bicycling, carsharing, parking, and more, including an interactive map.
DDOT provides on-street parking for carshare vehicles. Carsharing provides the mobility of a car without the expense and hassle of car ownership. It helps solve traffic and parking problems in DC neighborhoods.
In cooperation with the Downtown BID and event organizers, DDOT provides information about how to get to and from special events in the city like the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which draws more than 2 million visitors over 16 days.
DDOT is a member of the regional Commuter Connections Network, offering free information on carpooling, vanpooling, and the guaranteed ride home program.
With the Employer Outreach program, DDOT markets sustainable transportation to private employers in the District with at least 100 employees. A DDOT-funded sales team provides employers with information on all modes, and programs like SmartBenefits and bicycle parking assistance*.
DDOT works with developers to incorporate TDM strategies into new commercial and residential developments.
